The collective role among the various institutional actors has been felt necessary to establish improved governance system which is important for improving livelihoods of the people. Due to the ´failures´ none of the sectors could be sole alternatives in the best management of public goods. Civil Society Organization (CSO) like Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has therefore been proving their woth as a significant Third Sector to compliment and supplement the roles played by the public and private sectors. Considering NGOs increased role, this book aims at understanding NGOs increased role to work as development partner. Some of the major themes that discusses in this book are poverty situation of Nepal, NGOs roles for improving livelihoods, and their strengths and weakness in performing such roles. This book at its best tries to explore the increasing roles of NGOs/NPOs and their importance in Nepal.

Dr. Dhakal works as Professor of Public Administration at TU in Nepal. He was Visiting Professor at National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka for 2006/7. He conducted researches on governance, NGOs, and local devlopment. He has contributed various articles and served as an editor and also presents papers in different forums and conferences.
