In this multilingual and multicultural world, understanding modes of communication helps a lot to taste the positive side of multilingualism. Language, ethnicity and intergroup relations are enormously complex concepts in multicultural settings. This study explores the different manifestations of strong ethnic feelings and its impact on intergroup relations. The strong language and ethnicity relationship in a multilingual setting urges ethnic groups to magnify their difference and to demarcate their boundaries. Such relationship leads them to create their own small island filled with members of an ethnic group. This strong language and ethnicity relationship has considerable influence on intergroup relationship in a multilingual setting. This book investigates major barriers of intergroup relations in a multilingual setting. These are ethnocentrism, prejudice and stereotypes, politics, historical grievances and past injustice, strong ethnic feeling, etc. All these can affect good communication and hence peaceful relationships that is so central to all aspects of modern life.
