Recent advances in technology have created new opportunities for adolescents as well as additional regulatory challenges for parents. Parents have always been the first educators, but if they are to regulate and/or effectively communicate with their children about the Internet, they first must be aware of the realities of their children s Internet use and perceptions, as well as the impact of their Internet regulatory practices. This book provides new insight into the degree of agreement that existed between adolescents and parents in terms of Internet use, perception of use, and regulation. Empirical connections are made between parent-adolescent agreement and the levels of autonomy and autonomy support in the home. It is important to study the degree of this Internet-related agreement between adolescents and parents so that parents and educators can continue to ensure that the Internet is a place where young people can fulfill their basic need for autonomy in a safe and supportive manner.
