Using a qualitative approach Aboriginal youth discovered empowerment through photo novella by examining and reflecting on their leadership experiences. Visual stimuli was used to facilitate conversations and engage the youth in telling their stories. In their own unique voice, the youth shared their motivation, momentum, and tenacity which is both powerful and compelling. The complexities of life s challenges and demands require the youth to spin their own tapestry using the finely woven threads of Traditional ways of learning, healing through relationships, and participation in cultural events. Evident amongst these threads is the need for the cultivation of Indigenous pride to assist Aboriginal youth to grow and develop these threads into a sustainable culture. The creation of positive oral histories is celebrated and enhanced while honouring Traditional ways of knowing and being. Aboriginal youth are ready to take up the leadership reigns and as a society, we need to understand and create meaningful ways to support Aboriginal youth in their quest.
