The WTO Dispute Settlement System was designed to secure the rule of law with in the multilateral trade system and to provide all members an equal and effective opportunity to exercise their rights under the complex and broad multilateral agreements. However a massive amount of statistical evidence shows that the vast majority of Developing Countries are largely left out of the system. The problems and challenges of developing countries in the WTO Dispute Settlement System have been the subject of many scholarly researches. How ever there seems to be no consistent and systematically streamlined approach to the issue. In this book an attempt is made to summarize and systematically describe the major problems of developing countries in the WTO Dispute Settlement system and explain the reasons underlying the problems. An evaluation of the measures taken in view of solving the challenge is also covered. The assessed the relevance and practical implication of some of the proposals and solutions put forward by different groups and authors.
Hadsh Tesfa Gebreab is currently the Dean of College of Law and Governance in Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He received his LL.B from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and his Masters from BuceriuS/WHU Law school Hamburg, Germany, in Law and Business.He practiced law as the Legal Adviser and Attorney of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia.
