"Women in Urban Informal Sector and their Activity Pattern" is base on research undertaken on the status of the urban informal sector women in Bangladesh. The Governments of many countries are concern about developing policies which would remove the gross discriminations against the informal sector worker and guarantee them a better income. But most of the policies have a slant towards supporting male "informal sector" workers, heads of households or entrepreneurs. But available information on "informal sector" suggested that women from a large group in this sector. The overall picture of women´s participation in the market-based work in the informal sectors shows that they perform as the marginal segment of labour force constituting a reservoir of cheap labour. The key issues relating to these female workers include lack of bargaining strength, abnormally long working hours, abysmal working conditions and extremely low wages. These working women are neither organized nor protected by legislation.
