Gentrification is a process that affects most urban neighborhoods in the North and East of the United States, which is backed up by several case studies carried out in New York City. The New York City borough of Brooklyn offers the greatest variety of gentrification, particularly the four neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Williamsburg, and Red Hook are chosen to depict the different stages. The book mainly focuses on the disadvantages which the process of gentrification causes for long-term residents of these four Brooklyn neighborhoods. Each of them has experienced different ways of undergoing gentrification, but in the end they are all moving towards the same direction: namely being super-gentrified.
