This monograph seeks to answer how the transformation from an analogue to a digital system could be approached in comparison with developed nations. It will also try to analyse the digital divide within Uganda´s communities under which a certain percentage of the population would enjoy digital television services, while the largest part of the nation would not enjoy such access. Other issues to be discussed will include whether Uganda will opt for the satellite platform (D-SAT), Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) cable, terrestrial, IPTV, or a combination of all these technologies. This research into the growth of digital broadcasting in developing countries was carried out in Uganda as a case study to establish its readiness for the digital switchover. Since there is, as yet, no published literature addressing the digital switch over in Africa, this preliminary research should be of use in considering a preparatory strategy by which to facilitate a transformation from the current analogue infrastructure to a digital alternative in Uganda and perhaps the rest of Africa and other developing nations.
