Weather anomalies and global climatic change is frequently discussed topic in recent scholarship. Without the knowledge of the fluctuations of the climate in the past one can not estimate the future its processes. In the last years major development has been achieved in understanding the climate of Western and Central Europe of the last millennium and especially that of the last five hundred years. In the last two decades historical as well as scientific research tried to reconstruct the climate of the last millennium in Hungary but our knowledge of the climatic processes of the Carpathian Basin is still scattered. This study aims to discuss the weather events of a short period, the beginning of the fourteenth century which in Western and major parts of Central Europe is considered to be a critical period with floods, cold summers and famines.
