The population in the UK is ageing. As life expectancy continues to rise it is now estimated that pensioners will soon outnumber children. This book suggests that the Labour government have responded to this demographic change by reconceptualising ageing. This book explores the governments response to the ageing population. As older people are increasingly portrayed as active citizens with free choice and control this book examines the reasons behind this ideological shift. Using Critical Discourse Analysis the author closely examines the language used within Policy for older people. She asks to what extent this ideology reflects the voices of older people and to what extent it is driven by economic perogatives. This book explores policy and language and the implications of this for Practitioners working with older people.Ms Billie Walbank graduated from The University of Leeds in 2005 with a First Class Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Policy and Sociology. She gained a Master of Arts Posgraduate Degree in Social Work in 2007.
