Anton Corbijns neuer Spielfilm ist der Thriller The American mit George Clooney in der Hauptrolle. Die große Hollywood-Produktion kommt im Herbst 2010 in die Kinos. Der Film, nach dem Roman A Very Private Gentleman von Martin Booth, spielt in Schweden und in den Abruzzen. Clooney ist ein Auftragskiller, der sein Leben ändern will und zur grausamen Erkenntnis kommt, dass man vergangene Taten nicht ungeschehen machen kann. In weiteren Hauptrollen spielen Thekla Reuten, Violante Placido, Irina Björklund und Paolo Bonacelli. Die Filmmusik stammt von keinem Geringeren als Herbert Grönemeyer. Regisseur Anton Corbijn, der sein altes Photographenleben keineswegs aufgegeben hat, brachte seine Photokamera täglich mit an den Drehort. In ungestellten, durchweg farbigen Bildern von den Dreharbeiten, begleitet von Corbijns Kommentaren im Tagebuchstil, gewährt es freimütig Einblick in "the making of The American".

Anton Corbijn´s new feature film is a suspense thriller titled The American, starring George Clooney. Its world-wide release is scheduled for fall 2010. Based on Martin Booth´s 1992 novel A Very Private Gentleman, the movie is set in Sweden and in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The protagonist is a gunsmith and sometime hitman who tries to change his life, only to find out the hard way that you can t undo the past. Not one to give up on his old life, director-cumphotographer Anton Corbijn daily took his stillcamera to the set, and this book is the proof of that. Filled with candid on- and off set photographs accompanied by Corbijn s diary style writing, it provides a unique insight into the making of The American.
