The global and diverse phenomenon of dropout of high-performance sport is a fact in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, and can be reduced. That has been found out during this graduation thesis commissioned by the "Landessportbund Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e.V.". In literature review past researches have been analysed. From this, new research has been undertaken by means of longitudinal study, interviews with regional coaches and a qualitative survey with dropout cases. As a result of that main reasons of a premature dropout in the nine core sports, namely athletics, boxing, canoeing, diving, rowing, sailing, short-track, triathlon and volleyball female could be identified. Although the commissioner has little power in this whole process an approach reducing the dropout rate has been created. After a long time, this work finally provides an actual insight into dropout of high-performance sport in Germany.

André Schneider successfully finished his study in International Leisure Management at the NHTV Breda, Netherlands, in 2009. After his study he started working in the bowling industry for one year and is nowadays engaged as project manager sport at a sports marketing and promotion agency.
