The economics of water resources in Jordan has gained little attention of a comprehensive and coherent nature. Evaluation of the existing policies, procedures, regulations, and strategies; difficulties of an application of such appropriate policies; and improving the economic efficiency of water use are discussed as the main research questions in this book. The book suggests new economic-based dimensions that are consistent with the recent governmental directives on economic reform policies. Moreover, it warns of the severe impact of water scarcity in Jordan, and calls for the adoption of new water conservation devices. The study indicates how to integrate environmental values into economic policy development; identify options for efficient water use management; survey other nations´ experiences from an economic point of view. The major results of the study indicated that water market mechanisms were not used as a tool for the efficient allocation of water. Implications of the study can provide significant options to the decision-makers involved in the water sector in some developing countries.
