This book explores factors that safety and health professionals and extension specialists should consider when planning and implementing respiratory safety and health programs. The book provides an extensive review of literature on behavioral models and theories, and identifies relevant belief constructs that address workplace safety and self-protective behaviors. The constructs that significantly influence workplace safety are selected and used to develop a needs assessment tool for a respiratory safety program. Data Analysis of the needs assessment phase focused on how the perceived health beliefs of agricultural employees of a college of agricultural sciences in a northeastern land-grant institution significantly influenced their choice of behavior. Additionally, the barriers to using respiratory protection at the workplace are identified, and useful suggestions offered to plan and implement effective respiratory safety and health programs.
