India being the second fastest growing economy after China with a huge consumer class has resulted in consumer durables as one of the fastest growing industries in India and one of the most favored destinations for investment. LG and Samsung, the two Korean companies have been maintaining the lead in the industry with LG being the leader in almost all the categories. In order to tap semi-urban and rural demand, companies are expanding their distribution networks in these areas. The move has positively impacted sales for companies opting for rural expansion. Companies like LG and Samsung are now focusing on rural areas also. These companies are introducing gift schemes and providing easy finance, moreover they are conducting promotional activity in the rural area in order to create awareness to capture the consumer based in rural area. As the awareness among rural consumers rises, they are expected to show a preference for branded products. This is reflected by the fact that established players are now reporting higher sales of their products in rural areas.
