A collection of essays, mostly written at Oxford University during 2005, this book is meant as a brief guide to orient undergraduate and postgraduate study on the nature of, and relations between, the Greek East and Latin West in the Middle Ages. The book is divided into three sections, one on the Latin West, another on the Greek East, and a further section on the relations between them two. The first two subsections are divided into selections on key historical, theological and spiritual events and ideas from the time. A concluding essay, written for and delivered at a lecture at St Mary´s University College, London, in 2011, ties all the sections together.
Matthew Harris teaches Philosophy at QEH, Bristol. He is the author of The Notion of Papal Monarchy in the Thirteenth Century, and Perspectives on the Thirteenth-Century Papacy. Graduating top of his class from Oxford University, he has studied at Regent´s Park College, the University of Birmingham, and University of Bristol.
