God´s Shabby Clothes: Exploring ultimate reality is the culmination of many years of academic and spiritual formation and lived experience. The purpose of the book is to examine religion, science and atheism and their respective responses to the ultimate questions of origin and purpose. It suggests that each of the three disciplines have a particular language for exploring ultimate reality and human purpose. A central insight explored is: the language each discipline employs to describe ultimate reality can only ever function as a signpost pointing beyond itself to a deeper and more all-encompassing whole. A whole that some label God and that others may label nothingness or the quantum field of pure potentiality. It offers an accessible language, not necessarily distinctive of a particular context, worldview or cultural perspective, that seeks to articulate what is behind all attempts to express the ineffable and infinite reality that is ultimate reality or God.
Mark Craig is a school teacher in Brisbane, Australia. Before entering the teaching profession he was in full time ministry within the Roman Catholic Church. His particular interest is spirituality and how religious language needs to reflect a shift in culture and mindset, particularly within institutional religion.
