Africa is currently experiencing a major transformation with regard to the norms and institutions governing multilateral relations on the continent. This gradual shift has the potential to transform the way Africa addresses the intertwined challenges of development, peace & security. The realization that without peace, security and stability, the attainment of any´goals is severely impaired, led the foundations for the shift. Besides the Constitutive Act,there was the establishment of Africa´s own PSC. As part of the broader framework for establishing security architecture, the PSC is supported by a host of institutional arrangements,in which one of them is the AU CMD. The CMD is one of the operational policy arms´of the PSC.It has been contributing its best in managing and preventing conflicts in Africa. However, the improvements are resting on fragile grounds and there are many challenges, which hinder the division to attain its established mandate and objectives. Moreover, the CMD is a new undertaking that has not yet been studied comprehensively. Therefore, the book assessed and explained information pertaining to the multitude challenges that the division has been facing.
