Insurance administration is never static, because it relates to the conduct of a progressive and ever-expanding society. Insurance has a steady growth and progress. This study concluded that gender and marital status influenced teachers take-up Life Assurance. Based on the findings, male teachers constituted the majority in the take-up of Life Assurance. This can be explained by the fact that men have a high mortality rate as opposed to women. According to Mutunga (1985), Life Insurance rates, like all insurance products, are based on potential risk, and men as a statistical group are riskier to insure than women. According to Angima (1987), men die younger than women of almost every typical cause of death. Men as a group tend to participate in more high-risk activities and careers than do women. Results on the variable marital status indicated that the married teachers´ category had the higher proportion as opposed to single persons. This may be due to the fact that such households have dependants to protect and sustain. Findings on age indicated no influence on teachers´ take-up of Life Assurance.
