Nabucco is a gas pipeline project from Turkey to Austria which should transport natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Europe. The project is of top priority for the EU because of issues such as security of supply and energy diversification. First the author describes the situation of energy development within the EU and the strategies concerning natural gas in Europe. One chapter evaluates the consumption of natural gas by European country. Moreover other European pipeline projects and their benefits for the countries involved are discussed and then ways of financing the Nabucco project are considered. Another chapter deals with the political aspects of energy relations with the Russian Federation and the countries concerned around the Caspian Sea. The book allows a good overview on international relationships concerning natural gas and finally shows ways how Europe can develop its energy strategy.
