Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Komparatistik, Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft, Note: 1,3, Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The presented study compares two different german translations of William Shakespeares "The Merchant of Venice" with the strongly ambivalent figure of "Shylock, the Jew" in focal point. The aim of this paper is to investigate, how the characterization of Shylock changes between the translation of August Wilhelm Schlegel in the ceasing 18th century and the one of Erich Fried in 1986, therefore between pre- and post-knowledge of the holocaust.
