Die Ars Electronica auf der Suche nach dem Ursprung: Wie und wo alles beginnt

Der unstillbare Hunger nach Erkenntnis; die Lust daran, altes Wissen auf den Kopf zu stellen; der Wunsch, herauszufinden woher wir kommen; die Sehnsucht, unserer Existenz eine Bedeutung zu geben und uns im Gesamtbild des Universums zu verankern: Diese so grundlegenden Wesenszüge des Menschen sind die gemeinsamen Quellen von Kunst und Wissenschaft.
In Zusammenarbeit mit CERN, dem internationalen Grundlagenforschungsinstitut, an dem über 8000 Wissenschafter- und Wissenschaftlerinnen aus vielen Nationen versuchen, die Entstehung des Universums und den Ursprung aller Materie zu verstehen, beschäftigt sich die Ars Electronica 2011 mit der Welt der Spitzenforschung. Dabei geht es auch um einen neuen Blick auf die Bedeutung von Einrichtungen wie CERN. Gewähren sie doch Freiräume des Denkens, wie sie nicht nur für die Wissenschaft unverzichtbar sind, sondern auch für die Entwicklung zukunftsfähiger Gesellschaftsentwürfe dringend notwendig wären.

The insatiable hunger for knowledge, the desire to turn old knowledge on its head; the yearning to find out where we come from; the longing to give meaning to our existence and to anchor ourselves within the big picture of the universe: these fundamental, essential qualities of humankind are the common sources of art and knowledge.

In cooperation with CERN, the international research institute, where over ten thousand scientists from many different nations are attempting to understand the creation of the universe and the origin of all material, Ars Electronica 2011 is working in the world of top level research. Its also about gaining a new perspective of institutions such as CERN. After all, they are affording room for thought, which is not only indispensible for science, but also urgently needed for the development of plans for sustainable societies.
