There is no such thing as a recession when you´ve lived your life on the the bottom rung. Shorty knows this, but he also knows an opportunity to escape his sorry existence when he sees one. That opportunity arrives in the the death of a small town´s most beloved citizen, and as the residents prepare for a spectacle-filled funeral, Shorty and his friends set their sights on the local bank and the land fall of cash that has just arrived to cover the local farmers´ government subsidy checks.

Sal Kingfisher was raised in the wooded Ozark foothills. He received his education from the wise and hardened hill folk who frequented the dark and smoky inns and taverns where his mother worked and his father played. Aside from a single grainy photograph, he has not been seen in many years.
