Stuart Franklin (geb.1956 in London), Mitglied von Magnum Photos und Geologe, bereist als Fotojournalist die Welt und hält vom Tian anmen-Massaker bis zur Intifada die Zeitläufte im Bild fest. Doch eine Reise in die Region M›re og Romsdal an der Westküste Norwegens lässt ihn innehalten: Franklin kauft sich auf der Insel Otr›ya eine Hütte an einem See und verbringt dort in den nächsten zweieinhalb Jahren viel Zeit. Narcissus dokumentiert seine Erfahrung dieses abgeschiedenen Ortes. Das Verweilen und sich Versenken führt zu einer vertieften Kenntnis, zum Erlebnis der Fülle in einer Umgebung, die zunächst karg erscheint. Sehr stille, kontemplative und introvertierte Landschaftsfotografien entstehen, die dabei immer wieder menschliche Bezüge suchen ein Weg, ein Hackklotz in der Ecke des Grundstücks, das scheinbar zum menschlichen Porträt gerinnende Abbild einer Bergsilhouette im See. Narcissus documents his experience in this remote place, which led to a deeper understanding and sensitivity for the abundance around him in an environment that at first seemed barren.
