Das von Fuensanta Nieto und Enrique Sobejano 1984 in Madrid gegründete Büro Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos mit einer Dependance in Berlin zeichnet sich durch eine Ästhetik reduzierter, aber kraftvoller Formen und Materialien aus. Die weltweit tätigen Architekten kultivieren in ihren Projekten den Dialog zwischen zeitgenössischer Architektur und dem jeweils konkreten Baukontext. Ihr Ansatz integriert Themen wie Landschaft, Material, Geschichte oder natürliches Licht und manifestiert sich in Museen, Konzert- und Kongresshallen. Die spätmittelalterliche Moritzburg in Halle etwa, die das Kunstmuseum des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt beherbergt, wurde überdacht und spektakulär nutzbar gemacht. Die Publikation beschreibt anhand vielfältiger Projekte die jeweilige Verknüpfung von gestalterischer Idee und realisiertem Pendant. Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos, founded by Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano in Madrid in 1984 and since 2004 with a branch office in Berlin, sets itself apart by virtue of an aesthetic of reduced yet powerful forms and materials. The architects, who are involved in projects throughout the world, cultivate a dialogue between contemporary architecture and the existing context. Their approach focuses on architectural essential themes such as landscape, material, history, natural light, or the role of the roof, which becomes palpable in many of their public buildings, museums, concert halls, and convention centers. The late medieval Moritzburg Castle in Halle, for example, which houses the Municipal Museum of Art and Applied Arts, received a new roof, extending the range of its use in a spectacular way. The publication shows the link between the architectural thought and the built work in a diversity of projects presented on the basis of Nieto Sobejano s interpretation of architecture as a balance between memory and invention.
