Generalized Frequency Division Multiplexing (GFDM) is a novel multicarrier scheme developed for 5G applications. After a short introduction, this report deals with the effect of pulse shaping filters on the bit error rate and out of band radiation of GFDM. The GFDM transmission and reception and the effect of the pulse shaping filters are mathematically analyzed thoroughly. An equation for the bit error rate and power spectral density is derived. Performance criteria are defined and evaluated analytically and numerically for various pulse shaping filters. The Dirichlet pulse is found to create the lowest self-interference whereas the raised cosine pulse is shown to have the lowest out of band radiation. Further considerations on the GFDM waveform design regarding OQAM and CP insertion are given as a short summary. OQAM was shown to work with GFDM and the CP can be efficiently used to reduce the out of band radiation.
