Bapsi Sidhwa (1938) is regarded as one of the best recognized Indian subcontinent woman writers of the twenty-first century whose varied literary output deals with divergent contemporary issues. Her novels, The Crow Eaters, The Pakistani Bride, Ice-Candy-Man, An American Brat and Water: A Novel, have been examined critically with focus on Sidhwa´s presentation of different layers of women´s existence, and their multi-textured victimization with reference to socio-cultural and political milieu of Indian subcontinent. Women´s position, their status, the scope of their liberation and the barriers that promote their growth as new women are the concepts that run through her works along with Parsi ethos, Indian Politics, Partition and cultural shock. This book discusses all the aspects of women´s suffering on different grounds. Sidhwa´s depiction of the situations, problems and struggles of women in familial and societal frameworks are discussed.
