The book examines intradermal vaccination in piglets in terms of early immunity development, efficacy of protection again the vaccinated disease and ability overwhelming colostrum-derived specific antibody. Intradermal and classical intramuscular administration comparison yielded in a detailed overview of both vaccination routes. Contemporary knowledge and development of intradermal techniques are described in respect of world and national involvement of intradermal devices and vaccines. An ability of piglets develops immunity in early postnatal age was studied at 3, 7, 14 and 28 days. The intensity of the humoral response was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the cellular immunity by lymphocyte proliferation test. The full immune-competence of piglet at the age of 28 days was confirmed, both humoral and cellular. Younger groups of piglets, vaccinated early in the third day of life (and later) declared measurable response either, however age-dependency was demonstrated, corresponding maturation status of immune organs and cells.
