The book is about the literary works of Ntozake Shange, on the American stage, and also Afro-American inquiry for a historically persuaded theatre, and to increase the approach to information on the black Theatre, for a broader readership, which includes Africans facing problems, which are described later. The study begins with a historical examination of the 3 early theories of the black drama, from the very first known "Afro-American Theatre Group" to the development of the "Black Revolutionary Theater" in the decades of the 60s and 70s, noting how these theorists and playwrights paved the way for the disruptive texts of black women´s drama. This investigation is not meant to be comprehensive, selecting only those movements and playwrights considered relevant to an effective understanding of the foundation for the essential work of Shange.
