This work deals with the possibility of implementing the year nine Swedish National test in Austria. The theoretical part of this book consists of topics such as the curriculum, English levels, standardised tests and skills. In European countries levels of English are described by the "Common European Framework of Languages (CEFRL)", therefore the implementation of the Swedish test in Austria should be feasible. The research was conducted by the same teacher in both countries and it was found that Swedish pupils have better English skills. The analysis of the test results illustrates that it would be possible to implement the Swedish National Test in Austria. Moreover the study showed that Austrian and Swedish pupils achieved their best results in the oral test. The test in the receptive skills was the most difficult one for both groups. Further investigations revealed that Sweden checks the English level of all year nine pupils every year. The aim thereby is to check the English level and to support a homogenous grading for the whole year.
