The book is intended to lighten the burden of parents, teachers and the hyperactive child by viewing their problem from the perspective of a behavior problem that needs to be managed, like most things in our lives. This book on hyperactivity in the Indian Family highlights the fact that short attention span would result in not completing tasks, games or projects; repeatedly shifting from one activity to another would hamper any tasks that required sustained attention. Nevertheless, the developmental course of attention deficits often took on different patterns in the kids at middle school years. Also it could prove to be different for girls as compared to boys. The outcome for the ADHD individual was likely to be dependent on factors like his/her level of intellectual development, family environment, socio-economic status, aggressiveness and severity of other situational symptoms.
The author is an academician and a trained psychotherapist who has specialized in the study of several topics in the subject of behavioral psychology. Having completed a Ph.D in ADHD in 1998, several years of clinical practice have given her the expertise and confidence to share some interesting insights about people who she has met.
