Laurie Halse Anderson, geb. 1961 in Potsdam, lebt in New York. Sie studierte Sprachen und Sprachwissenschaft und war eine erfolgreiche Journalistin, bevor sie beschloss, halbtags als Buchhändlerin zu arbeiten, um genügend Zeit für ihr literarisches Schreiben zu haben.
