Juha features the Everyman character that holds a mirror to society´s foibles and falsehoods. The book is a translation of Juha´s oriental anecdotes that are a product of national consciousness of the Arab mind. Juha´s tales and jokes are echoes of contemporary caricatures to decode profound socio-political messages. The study investigates the underlying mechanisms of humour by presenting a scientific analysis of the conversational implicature that causes laughter, an enterprise that can provide a comprehensive background to understand Juha´s folk anecdotes. Marwa Alkhayat is an Assistant Professor at MISR University for Science & Technology since 2010. She has extensive years of academic teaching since 1999. She received her MA and PhD degrees in Comparative Postcolonial Drama & Literary Criticism from the University of Cairo,Egypt.She has published articles on Semiotics and children´s literature.
