Fragen moderner Auszeichnungskultur, aktuelle Heldenbilder und damit verknüpfte Formen der Kennzeichnung herausragender Persönlichkeiten stehen im Fokus der vorliegenden Dokumentation eines internationalen Ausstellungsprojektes. Ein hochkarätig besetztes Kuratorium wählte prägnante, oft überraschende Positionen namhafter KünstlerInnen und Studierender - Schmuck, Objekte und andere Formen der Auszeichnung für reale oder fiktive Helden -, die eindrucksvoll die Vielschichtigkeit künstlerischer Reflexion und ambivalenter Interpretationen der Thematik veranschaulichen. Die in Szene gesetzten Statements werden von Essays renommierter Autoren ergänzt, welche historische, soziale und kulturelle Kontexte verdeutlichen.

Questions regarding the modern culture of distinction, current images of heroes, and with this associated forms in labelling exceptional personalities are the focus of the current documentation surrounding an international exhibition project. A top-class board of trustees selected eye-catching, often surprising approaches of renowned artists and students - jewellery, objects and other forms of decoration for real or fictional heroes - that impressively exemplify the diversity of artistic reflection and its sociopolitical relevance. The statements presented are complemented by essays from renowned authors, reflecting historical, social and cultural contexts.

ausgezeichnet! most excellent! is a joint project of the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund e.V., the Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr in Dresden and the Institute for European Studies of the Technische Universität Chemnitz.
