The author Stefan von der Heide, born in 1959, acquired the necessary basics for his present work during his apprenticeship as an orthopaedic shoemaker. Shortly after receiving a master craftsman certifi cate for shoemakers in 1993, he began with the fi rst reconstructions of historica shoes. For some years now, his workspace has been in an artisan´s workshop set in the picturesque courtyard of the "Altes Schloss" (Old Castle) in Neustadt an der Aisch (Bavaria).
