The history of the modern piano is a very rich and eventful one, the development of this instrument having greatly influenced the evolution of both musical language and performance styles. In this comparative study, we tried to give an insight into the challenges of approaching a historical keyboard instrument and to analyze from a practical perspective the ways in which the choice of the instrument changes the performer`s view on the musical work.

Aurelia Visovan is an internationally acclaimed Romanian pianist, fortepianist and harpsichordist and a multiple prizewinner in competitions. She is a graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna and is currently pursuing her PhD studies in the field of historical keyboard instruments in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
