The topic of this book is the analysis of culturally subversive elements in the lyrics of three songs by The Rolling Stones. Of further importance, is the examination of the public response to these elements. After a short review of The Rolling Stones´ history and the timeframe (the 1960s) relevant to the book, the meaning of the term "cultural subversion" is defined. This is followed by several examples of negative public reactions to popular music, in chronological order from the time before and after 1969. In the book´s main chapter the lyrics of "Let It Bleed", "Sympathy for the Devil" and "(I Can´t Get No) Satisfaction" are analyzed. The literary dimension of the lyrics is the main focus of the analysis, while its historical contexts are taken into consideration where applicable. The rhyme schemes are also examined, especially in those cases where they support the subversive elements of the lyrics.
