Under the influence of the European Union, adult education developed rapidly in Greece during the decade from 2000-2010. This book offers a case study of the implementation of a European educational initiative in an EU member state. It seeks through careful analysis at the national, regional and individual level, to contribute to an understanding of how it might have worked better. It identifies significant factors to the development of policy in other contexts. It traces the trajectory of the development of the policy during the first decade of the schools´ existence with a focus on the experience, the professional support and development of the teachers in the Second Chance Schools. It sheds some light on CPD in order to strengthen the educational system. Teachers were charged with breaking new ground in the Greek adult education system. The analysis should help scholars or researchers who may be considering in deepening in teacher continuing professional development [CPD] in specific contexts. It should be especially useful to professionals in policy implementation by providing expert guidance to improve the policy rhetoric and maximise the policy investment in schools.
