Ursula Mamlok, die 1939 aus Deutschland emigrierte, komponierte mit 2000 Notes ihr wichtigstes Werk für Klavier solo in New York. Hier studierte und lehrte sie Komposition, bis sie 2006 wieder in ihre Geburtsstadt Berlin zog.
2015 bearbeitete Yu Fujiwara 2000 Notes für drei Schlagzeuger (Xylophon, Glockenspiel, Vibraphon und Marimbaphon). Die Uraufführung in Basel im Januar 2016 konnte Ursula Mamlok nicht besuchen, aber sie hörte eine Aufführung am 12. April in Villingen-Schwenningen und autorisierte diese Bearbeitung, begeistert von den neuen Klangfarben.

Es ist die letzte Komposition vor ihrem Tod im Mai 2016, die als Bearbeitung neu in ihr Werkverzeichnis aufgenommen werden konnte. In seinem Kontrastreichtum ist dieses kurze, prägnante Stück typisch für Mamloks Stil und zugleich eine bereichernde Erweiterung des Kanons ihrer Schlagzeugwerke.

In its original setting for solo piano this is one of the most important works in Mamlok´s oeuvre. Presented here in an authorized arrangement for percussion, this short, concise piece is typical of her style and a valuable addition to the canon of percussion works.

Ursula Mamlock, who emigrated from Germany in 1939, composed 2000 Notes, her most important work for piano solo, in New York. Here she studied and taught composition until she returned to her native city of Berlin in 2006.
In 2015 Yu Fujiwara arranged 2000 Notes for three percussionists (xylophone, glockenspiel, vibraphone, and marimbaphone). Ursula Mamlok was unable to attend the world premiere in Basel in January 2016 but heard a performance in Villingen-Schwenningen on 12 April and, delighted with the new tone colours, authorized this arrangement.
This is the last composition prior to her death in May 2016 which could be newly entered in her catalogue of works as an arrangement. Rich in contrast, this short, concise piece is typical of her style and a valuable addition to the canon of percussion works.
