The book traces the origin of literature to the classical period and the author has aptly reviewed the contributions of earlier scholars like Plato, Aristotle, Longinus among others in such a way that the reader can easily appreciate their different roles in the development of literature. Furthermore, to make the work structured and engaging to the reader, Dr Uche Nnyagu has diligently subdivided the chapters according to the genres. This will no doubt, make it easier for the reader to be focused. In addition, the writer has copious concrete examples in his illustrations and his language is apt and this makes the work coherent and easily appreciated to the readers.

Nnyagu, Uche
Uche Nnyagu hails from Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State of Nigeria. He studied English at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and holds the PhD of the University. Uche has published extensively in both Nigeria and in Europe. He is a lecturer and a critic.
