The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone (RAAS) system is a physiologically essential component of the human organism with widespread effects and actions throughout the human body. The numerous components of the RAAS axis are known to regulate several important functions such as blood pressure homeostasis, sodium re-absorption, vaso-contractile properties, aldosterone production, cellular growth and proliferation; and in addition are now known to exert an influence on intracellular metabolic signaling pathways as well.
