Bäume sind tief verwurzelt in der Erde; von Wind und Wetter geprägt, sind sie ein fester Bestandteil der Welt und des Lebens, das sie umgibt. Kim Oksun (geb. 1967) nimmt als Fotografin die Rolle der Beobachterin ein und wendet sich mit ihrer neuesten Arbeit den Bäumen der südkoreanischen Vulkaninsel Jeju-do zu. Ihre Fotografien dokumentieren die Form und Farbe der Bäume, und durch die Gegenüberstellung von Gleichheit und Unterschiedlichkeit innerhalb der Formen und Farben stellt sie die Einzigartigkeit der einzelnen Bäume heraus. Kim Oksuns Bäume gleichen Menschen, die lange Zeit still an einem Ort stehen und dadurch tief verwoben sind in das Chaos und das Leben um sie herum.

Das Museum of Photography, Seoul (MOPS), zeigt erstmalig Kim Oksuns neueste Serie "The Shining Things", und der vorliegende Bildband präsentiert 42 ihrer Fotografien in hochwertiger Ausstattung mit japanischer Bindung.

Trees are deeply rooted in the earth. Marked by wind and weather, they are a firm component of the world, of the life that surrounds them. As a photographer, Oksun KIM ( 1967) takes the role of an observer, and in her latest work, turns to the trees on the South Korean volcanic island of Jeju-do. Her photographs document the forms and colors of the trees, and a comparison of the similarities and differences of these forms and colors points out the individuality of each tree.
