Das international anerkannte Künstlerkollektiv Slavs and Tatars widmet sich dem als Eurasien bekannten Gebiet von der ehemaligen Berliner Mauer bis zur Chinesischen Mauer. Als "Archäologen des Alltäglichen", wie sie sich nennen, beschäftigt sie das Zusammenspiel von Religion, Macht, Sprache und Identität. In Büchern, Ausstellungen und Performances untersuchen sie Mentalitäten, Mythen, Traditionen und Übergänge und kombinieren wissenschaftliche Forschung mit Polemik und schlichtem Humor.

Wripped Scripped führt die Untersuchung des Kollektivs von Alphabeten als politische und affektbetonte Plattform fort. Während die Einführung neuer Alphabete oftmals mit dem Aufstieg und Fall von Imperien einherging, sind die Künstler weniger mit der Befreiung von Völkern und Nationen als der von Klängen und Buchstaben befasst. Das Buch befasst sich unter anderem mit dem Phonem [kh] als heiligem Laut im hebräischen, arabischen und kyrillischen Alphabet, der Beziehung Deutschlands zum Orientalismus mittels des Tetragraphen [dsch] und dem Zusammenhang von nasalen Phonemen und der Konstruktion polnischer und türkischer Identitäten.

The internationally renowned art collective Slavs and Tatars is devoted to the area known as Eurasia: east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China. Considering themselves as archeologists of the everyday, the collective focuses on the interplay of religion, power, language and identities. In books, exhibitions, and performances, they investigate mentalities, myths, traditions, and transitions, through a combination of scholarly research, polemics, and low-brow humor. Wripped Scripped continues the collectives investigation of alphabets as an equally political and affective platform. While the roll-out of new alphabets has often accompanied the rise and fall of empires, the artists attempt to liberate not so much peoples and nations but rather the sounds and letters that make up langauge. Chapters include a look at the phoneme [kh] as a sacred perspective in the Hebrew, Arabic and Cyrillic alphabets; Germanys relationship with Orientalism through the tetragraph [dsch]; and a study of nasal phonemes in constructing Polish and Turkish identity.
