Despite a range of equality and diversity legislation since the 1960s, commentators and researchers have concluded that women in the Higher Education sector do not receive fair treatment in relation to access to promotion opportunities. This book reports a study of female academics in Scottish universities, examines the reasons behind a lack of career advancement, evaluates academics´ perceptions regarding the causes of their lack of progression, and examines whether the introduction of Gender Equality Schemes in 2007 and the Equality Act in 2010 have made a discernible difference. This study will be updated in subsequent publications in order to track progress in female academic careers.
Chris Bradshaw worked in industry for over 20 years in a range of positions related to management, equality and diversity and HR management.
