The course content is focused on enabling to understand the formulations of commercial explosives and initiation systems used in surface and underground rock blasting; the mechanisms of explosive rock fragmentation in various mining and geological conditions; the techniques of rock blasting used in surface and underground mining and construction; trouble shooting in surface and underground blasting; blasting computations and optimization of blasting rounds charge design and firing in any mining and geological conditions of surface and underground blasting.

Antipas Massawe has PhD in Mining Engineering from Moscow State Mining Institute in 1989. The author is retired senior lecturer of The University of Dar es Salaam. Now is researching and consulting in mining and environmental issues.
