Corporate boards remain a male-dominated territory. The lack of women in the boardroom remains a perpetual problem. Efforts by companies to build a robust pipeline of female leaders have remained unfruitful and disappointing. Time and resources are invested to accelerate women but the paucity of women at the top remains appalling. This is because very little is understood about the unseen dynamics that shape the upward mobility of women. These unseen barriers are more detrimental because they are overt and therefore difficult to uproot, confront and correct.
