Despite the popular saying that the beauty lies in the eyes of beholder, orthodontists believe that the perception of facial esthetics vary according to genetics, age, gender, cultural norms and environmental factors. Though the beauty of a face may be judged from several perspectives but it is the side view, regarded as profile view, which plays the most important role. The orthodontic treatment of patients desiring to obtain optimum facial esthetics is based on altering the position, size or shape of jaws and teeth. However, this may not result in desirable changes in the facial soft tissues. This book gives a comprehensive analysis that guides dental practitioners and plastic surgeons that how well different skeletal parameters are correlated to the overlying soft tissue envelop in the sagittal plane. Thus, it is meant to provide insights about the selection of correction skeletal parameters for the maximum improvement in the facial profile.

Ahmed, Maheen
Dr. Maheen Ahmed did her B.D.S. from Fatima Jinnah Dental College. She then went on to pursue her residency training in the specialty of "Orthodontics" from Agakhan University Hospital, Pakistan and has been awarded fellowship (Orthodontics) by the College of Physician & Surgeons(2018), Pakistan. She has been involved in multiple research projects.
