They are widely used to amplify weak signals in night vision devices, medical diagnostics, in astrophysics, as radiation detectors and elementary particle detectors. The book gives a complete overview of the numerical models used in the design, including a number of original models. The validity of the methods developed is confirmed by comparing the experimental data with the calculations. Most of the developments and calculations were carried out directly by the author, who participated in major international projects.
