Maternal mortality and morbidity has been a great concern for the countries in the Asia, Africa and Latin America. Many women of these regions die while giving birth to their babies. Government and international organisations, including World Health Organisation have been putting relentless effort to implement different interventions aiming to protect mothers from dying due to maternity reasons. While evidence based practice is pivotal to get the right intervention, this paper has got evidences with regard to community based maternal health intervention that can be useful for the researchers, academicians, program planners and policy makers working to improve maternal health.

Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam has got MPH degree from the univ. of Northumbria, The UK and Master of Population Sciences & M Com from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has been working in the Directorate General of Family Planning, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bangladesh for last 20 years in different positions, including Program Manager.
