This is indeed an inspiring story of courage in adversity. I have a soft spot for Mary - and Jimmy. . . Also George. Gracie reminded me of my husband´s Auntie Clare, a missionary and teacher, who went out to Africa to found a school, and when widowed came back to West Sussex and was headmistress of a village school. I couldn´t stop reading this story . . . a real page turner Sheila Newberry

Ruthie Lewis is the pseudonym of Marilyn Livingstone and Morgen Witzel, a collaborative Anglo-Canadian husband-and-wife team of writers and historians who live in Devon and do as much of their writing as possible on the beach or on the moors.
